Wine Tour of Nitra

Wine-growing area of Nitra (area: c. 3 770ha/9 312acres)

This area is situated mainly on the hills of the Tríbeč (Treebetch) range. The wines are grown here at the altitude around 240 AMSL. The vineyards stretch from the northern parts at Radošina coming down to the city of Nitra and continue east to other winegrowing centers of this region such as Vráble, Levice and Želiezovce. Annual rainfall is about 330mm (13.4inches). The southern part of this region is specific for its hot summers where as the northern and eastern parts have rater cold winters and less sunny days. The soil is also of more varieties starting with mid heavy clay changing into lighter lime and sand skeletal ones. The biggest wine centers of this regions are Nitra, Sereď, Levice and Vráble and villages as Radošina and Topoľčianky. The white wines are represented mainly by Grüner Veltliner, Feteasca regala, Muleler-Thurgau and also Pinot gris. The main reds are Cabernet Sauvignon and Blaufränkisc.
